Mortal Angels

Angels
Mortal angels
Take away the pretty wings
Yet angels still

Different names come out each day
For angels
Heroes
Saviors

Gifted with unearthly power
Angels
No they don't fly
Yet their faith brings power

Angels
Mortal angels
Cleaning out our hearts
Taping us together
In our hearts and out
Mortal angels with immortal power

Angels
Simply angels
Gifted with love
Expanded by faith
Blessed with trust
Created by God
Working their hands
Moulding our souls
Lighting up the night.

Angels
Are we angels?
Can I be an angel?
I have no wings
No superpower
Can I be an angel?
Yes, I think I can.

Fred the Talking Sign

As I watch my friends with film
They dared me to do a silly thing
To go to a sign, to pick any one
Start talking and going like it was alive

I looked and I found a solitary sign
Red on the front, spray-painted over
I went with the rules, I knocked and I talked
I thought it was silly but I wanted friends

I started with questions, then said my own name
Gesturing madly to make up for the lack
Then a male voice said deep out of nowhere
Hi! My name is Fred.

I jumped and I screamed, to hear such a thing
I looked at my friends to see who it was
But they were all gone I guess they were scared
Who could it have been that had spoken to me?

The deep voice continued, it pleaded I stay
I looked for the person who had spoken to me
No one appeared, until then I saw
The spray-paint before was really a face!

I was so shocked I had not a word
But the sign said that he was a friend
He claimed to be lonely without any soul
No one around would talk so to him.

Warily sitting, I thought and I smiled
Maybe this could be fun if I try
I started to speak and I learned who Fred was
We soon were friends like the sign said

When I remembered that he was a sign
I stopped and thought of what I should do
No one believes in talking stop signs
Still I would like to keep being friends

I’ll return to my friend and open my mind
No matter what others may think of me
I’ll sit on the road and talk to my Fred
I have a friend to keep for awhile

Prayer

Prayer is a heartbeat, a learning, and trust
If we take the time to give God a chance
By faith the Spirit speaks-listen we must
We will hear our answers, we must advance

Scriptures can teach us truth in all the world
In the scriptures our answers will be found
Instead of dying in a sea so twirled
We can grasp the truth and be saved, not drowned

God will give us every chance to repent
Merciful if we turn to him in prayer
When we trust in God and his angels sent
God will help to guide us through our every care

God and angels wanting us to only win
In this mighty battle against our sin

The Pain of Lost Love

Every moment that I can’t stop thinking
Time keeps moving and simply forges on
When I dive into my dreams believing
I regret when I awake, my dream is gone

When my sorrows seem to be non-ending
I must learn to look at my life anew
Facing the truth will teach me pretending
As I must present a mask, no tears in view

Caring for another gives me sorrow
I am wracked with the pain of losing love
Salty tears mark the path to tomorrow
Hoping for my dreams return from above

As I learn the complex pain of caring
I will hope for a lack of despairing

Sillylicious

Silly and delicious
Somewhere in between
Fun and happy feeling
Not a spot of mean

Tasty little feeling
With a little joke
Good and gladsome feeling
Starting with a poke

When you feel this feeling
The sun will ever shine
For you know this feeling
Brings a happy line

When you give to others
Happy with a smile
You will feel this feeling
Giving all the while

Background Story:
As a challenge to myself, I asked on Facebook for titles to write poems to. This title was one of those given, and I feel that the poem turned out quite well.

Hands

A child's hand does grasp it's mother
As the mother cries and smiles
Her baby born at last through pain
Yet worth each pain is found her son

A mother's hand does lift her child
Just a step, but soon one more
The child walks, and father smiles
Proud of his dear baby boy

A friendly hand is offered soon
As the child grows up tall
He must find his place in life
With the friends he meets and makes

A simple hand that offers love
Gently give to needing ones
He can save them from their pain
Feed them, clothe them, heal the wrongs

A loving hand does hold a ring
A simple love that hopes for "yes"
When it comes, relief is shown
A kiss to seal them to each other

A giving hand is offered now
To the wife who bears a child
Soon a miracle of life
Continuing the path of growth

A serving hand is always there
Leading, guiding, all through life
Once discovered, never leave
Righteous living brings them joy

A wringled hand does clasp another
Age is seen through change of skin
But with love the young holds old
A simple joy is sprung from here

A wrinkled hand that clasps another
The other's hand is smooth and white
In the lifetime of the former
Service, love and joy were shared

A dying hand is full of joy
For he knows the Lord is near
Waiting to embrace at last
Beloved child, son of God

The Savior's hand is always here
For all those who reach back out
He has cared for all of us
Loving brother to us all

All of us area simple hands
Serving God with all our hearts
Charity, and faith in him
Help us to return back home

All through life we see God's hands
Miracles to combat wrongs
When we serve we give love back
God will share our love with care

Background Story:
As I was holding my older adopted Grandma's hand, I looked down, and saw my hand, a young, unmarked hand, holding a wrinkled, aged hand. I thought for awhile about the image of it, and after my adopted Grandma had left to help with the presentation being presented, I started writing. I started with the stanzas about wrinkled hands, then I thought about other hands we see in life. The poem just started flowing onto the paper. I looked at it, and decided the stanzas were in the wrong order, so I re wrote the poem in the correct order. Later on, as I was looking back at what I had written, I felt like adding a little more. The last three stanzas were an inspired add-on that I feel fit with the rest of the poem.

Service

Bearing another's burdens
Helping another's cares
Service no one sees
No one knows what's theirs

Burdens spread to all
Hand outstretched to you
No one lets you fall
You know the friendship's true

Every single day
Teamwork reigns supreme
Learning all the way
Trust becomes the theme

Who once had been a stranger
Has now become a friend
With them no fear of danger
We're there beyond the end

Background Story:
As a youth leader in my girl's camp, I went on a very long hike with the Fourth year campers. We were all traveling to our campsite, going on a non existent trail. We just kept going, and the hike seemed to last forever. Yet, as we were crossing the stream, getting up hills, scrabbling down hills, it soon became apparent that this hike was having an effect on the girls. We all began to follow the example of my fellow youth leader, Monica. She was helping people across the stream, keeping tree branches lifted so we didn't have to, and waiting at the hilly points to give a helping hand. She was a great example to me of unneccessary service. Yet, as I saw her doing these little charitable acts, I felt stronger. I felt like I could get through this tiring hike, and help too. So I did. I helped people across the stream too. I waited to make sure everyone was safe at the hills. I carried other people's things. I helped too. Soon, everyone was doing something for someone else, and it was purely inspiring to see my girls working together.
