Milk Is Beating Through My Veins Like A Fish Skin Drum

Milk is beating through my veins
Chocolate filled with oxygen
Then just milk which feels no pain
Bubbles popping now and then

Milk is rushing through my head
Beating rhythm I can feel
Milk is white without much red
Christmas spirit feels more real

Milk is mixed with blood in me
Colors stark are beating fast
I feel different, you may see-
A fish skin drum is beating past

So much life exists in one
When that life exists by milk
Calcium sustaining fun
Energy as smooth as silk

Superman

No faster than the speed of light
Ordinary man you say
Yet he's more than just a man
A Superman in his own way

You could meet him on the street
Never knowing what he's done
You don't know what lives he's saved
Never know how far he'd run

Yet he's there no matter what
Caring for those loved and friend
Healing with his super power
Many lives he's helped to mend

He is super, strong and kind
Caring through a simple smile
Listening to hurts and wrongs
Being silly all the while

And for the ones you meet in life
Treat them kind, for they could be
Superman while in disguise
I know he's there, since he helped me

Background Story:
One of my very best friends calls himself Superman. I used to think of it as a joke, but now I understand it better. He's one of the very best people to go to for advice, and I feel the best after I get help from him. He's helped me so many times in my life. I was thinking about this today, and I just had to write about it...so I did.

Child at Heart

Around the room we spin around
Life is fun, no problems found
Dance and play
Sing away
Enjoy the moment found

Singing silly everywhere
Song will ever fill the air
Dance and play
Sing away
Enjoy song while it's there

Dizzy heads will soon set in
The song has ended-who will win?
Dance and play
Sing away
It doesn't matter who will win

Silliness won't come to a close
This happy day, it also shows
Dance and play
Sing away
Happiness is love for those

Love for those within our lives
Those who are there at all our times
Dance and play
Sing away
Friends within all our rhymes

Friends all bring us happiness
We will always sing and bless
Dance and play
Sing away
Love, and nothing less

Laughing, joyful, they're with you
No matter what, you know they're true
Dance and play
Sing away
They'll dance and sing with you

Trust your friends, they are there
No matter what, you know they care
Dance and play
Sing away
Cheer you up, no scare

Laugh a little, live your life
Though you know there will be strife
Dance and play
Sing away
Fun is there for every life

Background Story:
I started writing this because I wanted to write about being a little kid. I absolutely enjoy being a little kid. Sometimes life is too hard to be mature. I love being a little kid sometimes. When writing this, however, I ended up appreciating friends throughout my life at the same time. Even when we can let our childish selves out, we can always trust our friends.

Boys in My Life

Still not knowing where to go
Stream of life with broken flow
Ebb and tide of what we say
While I think another way

Does he mean some things I think?
Or is it just to him a blink?
A spot in time of just some fun
A flirt, a laugh, from everyone.

And another, I know he means
He's exactly what he seems
Tickles, smiles, teases, all
With him I know I will not fall

Yet again there is someone
And once before his heart I've won
But he does live so far away
I cannot give my heart this way

And someone else I know I care
Yet I feel like it's not fair
For not for me he cares so much
He loves my friends-I cannot touch

And yet another, I think he may
Care for me some special way
But this young man I've never met!
I do not know what will come yet

Another guy is hard to get
He's somewhat mean from what I've met
But still I wonder what he may think
Yet wondering will make me sink

And still one more, he seems quite nice
He likes my smile, it does suffice
But it feels odd that I don't know
A thing of him-no face to show

This other guy is fun to tease
I've known him for such years of these
Yes, he's fun, a sweet friend, yes
Does he like me? I can only guess.

And finally, a guy I know,
I've met him some, he's nice, aglow
But though I think that he likes me
I do not feel the same as he

And all these guys confuse my mind
A mind I've oft been pressed to find
Yet all these make my thinking hard
These guys have made my mind so barred

Background Story:
I originally wrote this to try to put to paper my confusion over a couple of guys. I wasn't sure if they liked me or not, or what was up with them. I wasn't sure who I liked. So, in attempts to help my confusion, I wrote the beginning of what is now this poem. Then, as I was copying this poem over into a fresher notebook, as the original notebooks were getting worn and tired, I really got going on the guys in my life today. This is about a lot of guys. Yes, there are a lot of guys in my life right now. I just wish I could figure guys out.

Unconditional Love

Who is right for one to love?
Choosing people that we know
Just a little knowledge here
Still we love and care for them

Dearest friends of different time
People met just once but yet
Close we hold them to our hearts
For their action and their joy

Like the twinkle of a star
People found in life will shine
We may find we love them all
Though we don't know who they are

Just for shining for a day
Joy to give and laughs for all
Kind advice and cheerful words
Lit up smile to brighten you

There are people all around
Who we love for what they do
Just one day made better, good
And love pours out just like a flood

Appreciate them, who they are
Angels each with every right
Just because you don't know all
Doesn't mean you shouldn't love

Background Story:
There are a couple of class clowns that everyone knows at my school. Every school has them, they are almost a neccessity. It could be argued that class clowns are a neccessity. Their silly natures make life that much easier. I was thinking about a pair of class clowns, and I just thought, wow, I love those guys. Then I thought, wow I'm saying I love a pair of guys that I don't really know. Since the train of thought had started, I decided to continue on the track and see where it led me. I came to the conclusion that there are some people you just have to love in life. Love them for being themselves, and making your day brighter.

Fred The Sign

I walked to a sign for a silly dare
Dancing and walking, without a care
I knocked on the sign, wondering why
My friends thought it funny, as I started with "Hi"
And so I kept talking, with laughs all around
For laughter was fun, a wonderful sound
I asked the sign questions, like what was it's name
Then suddenly jumped when my responses all came
The sign started speaking! It said it was Fred
A lonely young sign, or so the sign said
The laughter was gone, my friends ran away
I turned and I looked, then heard the sign say
"Will you not stay and talk with me more?
Though you're just one, and once there was four,"
And so I did stay, and talked with the sign
Next to the road, I sat for a time
Thoughtfully there, as the sun dimmed to dark
I thought of the day, and what was the mark?
Just what effect had it all had?
Thinking of this, I began to be sad
No one would care, or think this was true
Who could I tell? Could I even tell you?
Today had been good, completely, all new
Not the first thing to think I'd go through
But maybe that helped in making it good
I think that young Fred was gladly understood
And still I do go to the road with this sign
I talk with young Fred, on days that are fine
Always it's fun, and always I'll smile
I have a friend, to talk all the while.

Background Story:
I was very upset at my friends for having told me that I was writing too much depressed poetry, and I was determined to show them that I could write something that was not depressed. I tried for awhile to think of an idea of something silly, random, and fun that could not in any way be seen as "depressed". The idea of talking to a sign, like a stop sign, had been sitting in my head for about a week, but I could not get myself to pick up a pen and start writing. However, once I had started writing, there was no stopping. It almost felt as if I wasn't writing this poem, that it was writing itself. I was merely the conduit whereby words could be written on the paper. I came up with rhymes that fit, the words kept going, the story unfolding. This poem is one of my favorites ever because it feels so unreal.

Elephant in the Living Room

Look! There is an elephant!
It's in my living room!
Can you see the elephant?
Maybe you'll see it soon

That elephant is so big!
How can you even breathe?
It takes up so much space!
No air for you, I see

Oh what a silly elephant!
Dancing and playing around
Knocking into everyone
No space that can be found

How can't you see the elephant?
He's bigger every day!
Won't you ever mention him?
He is so loud-hear his bray

How can't you hear that elephant?
He is so loud-I can't hear
A single word you're saying
He's braying in my ear.

Will you not mention my elephant?
He's taking up all the space
I cannot seem to understand
Why the elephant's in this place

Won't you mention the elephant
That's in my living room?
If you'd simply mention him
He'd bray another tune

Maybe if you mention him
He will go away
Even though I'll miss him
I sure won't miss his bray

He might go to another room
To take up all their space
Maybe they might also wonder
Why he's in their place

But you know that elephant
He's in your living room
Identical to my very own
An elephant braying his tune

Don't be afraid to mention
The elephant, 'cause he's there
This one simple elephant
Will stay until you care

Background Story:
My friend Joel would often tell me about his elephant. It's in his living room, well in his entire house actually. It's a very nice elephant, and somehow, the rest of his family doesn't happen to notice that it's there. I would hear random braying noises on occasion when nothing else was being said. It was a good conversation starter, as I could then ask about his elephant. It became a joke, another way to play around. Yet it got me thinking, about the original phrase-an elephant in the living room. It seemed appropriate to write about this concept with the angle of the joke between me and my friend, then compare it to the original phrase.

A Flock of Flying Turtles

A flock of turtles! A flock of turtles!
They might say to you
When they are trying to distract you
From what is really true

You turn around in amazement,
Expecting to actually find
The flock of turtles! The flock of turtles!
It's hanging in your mind

But when you turn around
In complete shock you find
There are no turtles, there are no turtles
It was just a lie

They say that you are gullible
Your friends, they say to you,
Turtles can't fly, you know it's a lie
It's sad, but maybe true

They said that turtles were there!
Even though turtles can't fly-
They dissapeared! They dissapeared!
These turtles magically go "bye".

Turtles in the air!
You know it cannot be
This make-believe tale, it's a very fun sale-
Turtles in the air isn't make-believe

Even though the turtles
Might not have been there
You still will believe, turtles could be
Flying through the air

"Turtles in the air!"
They'll always say to you
Though turtles can't fly, you will always try
To see them, say they flew

For turtles might be slow,
And maybe so are you-
But flying through air, a miracle to spare!
They're fast, flying true

You know this little story
Might not really be true
But isn't it fun, what we've begun
With turtles flying behind you?

Background Story:
My friend Emily is a very random creature. She and a couple other friends came up with this joke about a flock of flying turtles. I didn't know about the beginning of this joke, however I saw the effects when, in lunch, someone would tell Emily, "Look! A flock of flying turtles!". She would invariably go look for the turtles. It was the funniest joke ever. Usually, someone would also take this opportunity to take something out of her lunch. I loved the joke about the flock of flying turtles, and thought long and hard about it, then wrote this poem on that joke.
