Empty Pages

An empty page, it calls to me
Waiting for my thoughts and prayer
Knowing God is really there
Fills me with a will to be

Once a thought is now a rhyme
Written on my empty page
Turmoil, thoughts, inside will rage
Now a notebook gives me time

With a purpose more than space
I have pages there to fill
Scattered bits of my free will
Come together, promising grace

Empty pages calling me
All together, yes I can
When my thoughts had ran and ran
Now I know, the world will see

A Try at Iambic Pentameter

If I could walk out of my life I would

I’m tired of the things I see I should

I should make it all okay as I can

But pouring in the rain I ran and ran

I wish for blindness so I could not see

The truth of life I wish would let me be

So sad it is that people have such pain

Their tears fall down just like the pouring rain

And people hurt each other with their words

Their speech is all too common like the birds

As birds scream insults through the very trees

Our insults would bring people to their knees

But pain holds not much of a place with me

My wish to people-take the time to see

Instead of taking time to make a fight

We should stop and look at making things right

Let out laughter when they would fight a smile

I’d be glad to see smiling all the while

Hearing this good would take my pain away

Saving my every tear for a rainy day

May we all look out for more than bad things?

When we see well we learn to fly with wings

Maybe the angels in our midst will fly

They have learned what it means to touch the sky

And I have grown so much from meeting you

I think I know who I am yes it’s true

Much thanks I have to give to you this time

For you have led me through this very rhyme

I gladly learn as learning comes my way

Today I did learn how to really pray

I took a chance and let in gratitude

Now I have changed my very attitude

Dancing in the Snow

See a dance within the snow
Footsteps, imprints, melting go
Stretch your arms and reach out high
Hands outstretched to touch the sky

Follow steps without a beat
Whirling snow makes it complete
Though the snow may give you chills
Bundle up and feel the thrills

Up and down you see it fly
And you see the wind go by
Whirling, twirling, tricks on stage
See the glorious rampage

Snow is showy, snow is white
Dance with it both day and night
If you learn the dance of snow
Dancing through all life, you'll know.

I Am.....

I am everything and anything
I am a part of all of life
I am nature working forward
I am full of new beginnings
I am all untapped potential
I am growth of the unknowing
I am life that waits for learning
I am waiting for a body
I am hoping for a family
I am grateful for some loving
I am yearning for my parents
I am a child within my mom

Christmas Spirit

As soon as snow is falling down
As soon as Autumn starts to frown
You'll hear the music start to play
Let us prepare for Christmas Day

You'll hear jingles wherever you go
The radio will talk of snow
You'll hear the wind begin to sigh
And know of Christmas coming by

The green and red are all around
And Christmas jingles singing sound
You see the countdown day by day
Yes, know Christmas is on the way

The caroling and giving time
The season of the heartfelt rhyme
The Christmas story loud and clear
We hear of Jesus every year

Hugs

Arms enveloping, holding tight
Holding close within it's might
Warmth it spreads throughout your heart
Love so brave that won't depart

Returning often to feel once more
Love that makes your heart too soar
Appreciation, happiness
This love you've felt your life will bless

Arms around you, not moving away
Drawing you in, forcing your stay
But you don't mind, you're happy too
Your heart is glowing, and it's showing through

They squeeze real tight, your heart is healed
Now you can expand your loving yield
Just one hug, and it's power over you
Hey look at that-your heart just grew.

Background Story:
I am what some may term as a "hug addict." My friends are pretty awesome about this peculiar addiction, and they usually are pretty wonderful about it. I wrote this poem in thinking of just how a hug makes me feel. I always feel loved, and healed, when I get the right kind of hugs.

Sillylicious

Silly and delicious
Somewhere in between
Fun and happy feeling
Not a spot of mean

Tasty little feeling
With a little joke
Good and gladsome feeling
Starting with a poke

When you feel this feeling
The sun will ever shine
For you know this feeling
Brings a happy line

When you give to others
Happy with a smile
You will feel this feeling
Giving all the while

Background Story:
As a challenge to myself, I asked on Facebook for titles to write poems to. This title was one of those given, and I feel that the poem turned out quite well.

Our Garden

Today we got together
Singing as we went
We visited Our Garden
To see how it has been

We hadn't visited Our Garden
For awhile it seems to me
And this we know is true
It has grown in many ways

The trellises and the roses
Blooming with perfect light
Their beauty unmatched
By anything on Earth

So we walked through our garden
Hand in hand and two by two
Boys and girls matched together
It's almost like the garden knew

Beauty all around us
And he said, "So are you-
You're as pretty as Our Garden
When it is in full bloom"

The perfect roses blooming
Elegant, soft as can be
They grow and bloom together
In perfect harmony

I blushed and smiled, my cheeks all red
Just like that blooming rose
He pulled me close into his arms,
said, "My dear I love you so."

He kissed my forehead, my blushes grew
Just as we came in sight
Of all the other couples there
Framed in shining light

The trellises tall had hid us
From the other's view
But now they too could see us
Now they like the butterflies knew

That love was found, that love was there
Unexpected as it may be
The butterflies had been flying around
It was all theirs to have first seen

I loved that day while in Our Garden
Where love was found, now known
That garden sweet now has a rose
Solitary, on it's own

This rose resides, happily within
A simple patch of dasies
It stands alone, planted there
At the end of all the mazes

This solitary rose, it stand
Proudly on it's own
Reminding all who meet it's gaze
That beauty stands alone

Every year this rose will bloom
Brightest one around
For this rose grows great and tall
Just like the love I've found

So thank you dear old garden
Thank you for knowing who
The who, the where, the when and why
It's almost as if you knew

For in the shadow of your trellis
True love you found for me
With a little help and direction
We were guided into thee

Background Story:
One of my first supporters when I started really writing poetry was my friend Emily. She read everything I wrote, as soon as she had time to read it. She judged everything I wrote and showed her, and told me exactly what she thought. It was exactly what I needed. At this time, I had been writing a lot of sappy, and rather awful poetry. You know, the stuff you hear about when someone talks about a person who thinks they are in love. The best friend always has to deal with the lovestruck fool and his or her awful poetry. Yeah, that was me. The lovestruck fool. So, Emily told me to stop it with the romancy, lovey-dovey stuff. I tried, really I did. But this is what I got. Still lovey-dovey, yet conveying a message. I'm glad I got to that point at least.

Unconditional Love

Who is right for one to love?
Choosing people that we know
Just a little knowledge here
Still we love and care for them

Dearest friends of different time
People met just once but yet
Close we hold them to our hearts
For their action and their joy

Like the twinkle of a star
People found in life will shine
We may find we love them all
Though we don't know who they are

Just for shining for a day
Joy to give and laughs for all
Kind advice and cheerful words
Lit up smile to brighten you

There are people all around
Who we love for what they do
Just one day made better, good
And love pours out just like a flood

Appreciate them, who they are
Angels each with every right
Just because you don't know all
Doesn't mean you shouldn't love

Background Story:
There are a couple of class clowns that everyone knows at my school. Every school has them, they are almost a neccessity. It could be argued that class clowns are a neccessity. Their silly natures make life that much easier. I was thinking about a pair of class clowns, and I just thought, wow, I love those guys. Then I thought, wow I'm saying I love a pair of guys that I don't really know. Since the train of thought had started, I decided to continue on the track and see where it led me. I came to the conclusion that there are some people you just have to love in life. Love them for being themselves, and making your day brighter.

Fred The Sign

I walked to a sign for a silly dare
Dancing and walking, without a care
I knocked on the sign, wondering why
My friends thought it funny, as I started with "Hi"
And so I kept talking, with laughs all around
For laughter was fun, a wonderful sound
I asked the sign questions, like what was it's name
Then suddenly jumped when my responses all came
The sign started speaking! It said it was Fred
A lonely young sign, or so the sign said
The laughter was gone, my friends ran away
I turned and I looked, then heard the sign say
"Will you not stay and talk with me more?
Though you're just one, and once there was four,"
And so I did stay, and talked with the sign
Next to the road, I sat for a time
Thoughtfully there, as the sun dimmed to dark
I thought of the day, and what was the mark?
Just what effect had it all had?
Thinking of this, I began to be sad
No one would care, or think this was true
Who could I tell? Could I even tell you?
Today had been good, completely, all new
Not the first thing to think I'd go through
But maybe that helped in making it good
I think that young Fred was gladly understood
And still I do go to the road with this sign
I talk with young Fred, on days that are fine
Always it's fun, and always I'll smile
I have a friend, to talk all the while.

Background Story:
I was very upset at my friends for having told me that I was writing too much depressed poetry, and I was determined to show them that I could write something that was not depressed. I tried for awhile to think of an idea of something silly, random, and fun that could not in any way be seen as "depressed". The idea of talking to a sign, like a stop sign, had been sitting in my head for about a week, but I could not get myself to pick up a pen and start writing. However, once I had started writing, there was no stopping. It almost felt as if I wasn't writing this poem, that it was writing itself. I was merely the conduit whereby words could be written on the paper. I came up with rhymes that fit, the words kept going, the story unfolding. This poem is one of my favorites ever because it feels so unreal.

Making You You

Standing alone, you feel that you are
Experiences that may take you out far
Away from the world, to making you you
Helping you learn, to learn to be true

True to yourself, true to your life
Standing above trials and strife
Though you may feel that you are alone
Search, and you'll see how you've truly grown

Learn from mistakes, and you will be found
Unique as a person, both feet on the ground
Or even if not, in Heaven we'll see
A child of God, you are, just as we.

Background Story:
I was contemplating a quote, "No man is an island" when I wrote this poem. Originally, I wanted to write about how the quote was wrong. Somehow, the message that was written turned out entirely fifferent than my original intent. Instead, I found myself looking at a perfect message for the upcoming camp theme-Making You You. Just like the poem title ended up being.

A Flock of Flying Turtles

A flock of turtles! A flock of turtles!
They might say to you
When they are trying to distract you
From what is really true

You turn around in amazement,
Expecting to actually find
The flock of turtles! The flock of turtles!
It's hanging in your mind

But when you turn around
In complete shock you find
There are no turtles, there are no turtles
It was just a lie

They say that you are gullible
Your friends, they say to you,
Turtles can't fly, you know it's a lie
It's sad, but maybe true

They said that turtles were there!
Even though turtles can't fly-
They dissapeared! They dissapeared!
These turtles magically go "bye".

Turtles in the air!
You know it cannot be
This make-believe tale, it's a very fun sale-
Turtles in the air isn't make-believe

Even though the turtles
Might not have been there
You still will believe, turtles could be
Flying through the air

"Turtles in the air!"
They'll always say to you
Though turtles can't fly, you will always try
To see them, say they flew

For turtles might be slow,
And maybe so are you-
But flying through air, a miracle to spare!
They're fast, flying true

You know this little story
Might not really be true
But isn't it fun, what we've begun
With turtles flying behind you?

Background Story:
My friend Emily is a very random creature. She and a couple other friends came up with this joke about a flock of flying turtles. I didn't know about the beginning of this joke, however I saw the effects when, in lunch, someone would tell Emily, "Look! A flock of flying turtles!". She would invariably go look for the turtles. It was the funniest joke ever. Usually, someone would also take this opportunity to take something out of her lunch. I loved the joke about the flock of flying turtles, and thought long and hard about it, then wrote this poem on that joke.
